How to replace an Idler Arm
_Objective: Students will remove and install a new idler arm assembly on a 1995 GMC Jimmy.
Lesson vocabulary: Idler Arm, Center Link, Tie Rod seperator, Taper Joint Students removed the skid pan. Next, the students removed the taper joint nut. The student took a tie rod separator, pickle fork. This was used to "pop" the taper joint between the idler arm and the center link. Students, then removed the frame carry-through bolts from the idler arm assembly. |

How to replace an Outer Tie Rod
Objective: Identify and determine what parts of the car needed repair due to a severe front-end vibration.
Lesson vocabulary: outer tie rod, inner tie rod, rack and pinion unit Today, students got under the car and tried to identify why a car was shaking when it reached highway speeds. Students have been taught the basics about tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joint, strut, and strut plates. After a review students were asked to identify, prioritized the replacement orders of the parts, and repair the problem at large, so the vibration would cease. |
